This is a perfect choice for the active traveller who loves river cruising and is interested in discovering the wines of one of France’s most renowned vineyard areas

You’ll spend your evenings cruising and dining on a family owned and operated boat along the waterways of the beautiful Bordeaux area of SW France.

During the day, stretch your legs on guided or self-guided cycle tours, passing through picturesque villages and exploring vineyards. En route you’ll make stops at classic wine estates in the main vineyard areas around Bordeaux – Entre-deux-mers, Sauternes, Graves, Bordeaux, Médoc, Blaye, Bourg, Saint-Emilion and Pomerol.

In each area you’ll enjoying wine tastings and learn about the life of the vineyard owner through the seasons.

About the boat

The neatly sized 78m long river cruiser is privately owned and can accommodate a maximum of 80 passengers in 49 cabins.

There’s a real family atmosphere on board the welcoming boat which has a lovely warmth thanks to its wood panelling and comfortable carpets.

The food is one of the highlights of this exceptional river cruising experience.  From the outstanding and varied breakfast buffet to the delicious evening meals prepared with the freshest local and seasonal produce, it’s a good job you’ll be active during the day!

About the river cruise

This river cruise provides a unique combination of culture and nature, sport, travel and adventure as well as fine wines and refined cuisine.

The cruise ship will navigate along the Gironde, Garonne and Dordogne rivers, promising beautiful scenes of traditional French life along the way.

In the late afternoon and early evening you’ll cruise to your overnight mooring point from where you’ll depart in the morning for your cycle tour.

About the cycling

Each day, your guided or self-guided bike tour will take you along quiet country lanes to visit chateaux and vineyard estates, historic villages and beautiful manor houses.

The daily bike tours are between 25 and 55km in length and can be adapted to your level with easier or harder options available on most days. E-bikes are available should you fancy giving your legs a rest!

You’ll discover the UNESCO heritage sites of the beautiful city of Bordeaux and the UNESCO registered village and vineyards of Saint Emilion.

Enjoy cycling on the peaceful backlanes and visiting many outstanding wineries where you can enjoy wine tastings and vineyard visits.

Overview

This river cruise is a great choice for those who enjoy staying active on vacation whilst still enjoying the finer things in life such as wine tastings, vineyard experiences, delicious gastronomy and visits to historic sites.

The great thing about this active river cruise is you can choose guided or self-guided bike tours each day and can either take your own bike or use one of those on board.

Itinerary

Optional transfer from the meeting point in Bordeaux to the cruise start location.

In the afternoon, enjoy a short local ride to get used to your bike and to stretch your legs.

In the evening, a welcome cocktail and dinner on board.

After a good night's sleep you can look forward to your first day of cycling. You'll discover the historic village of Saint Macaire and its wonderful old gates and stone walls. There is an opportunity to have your first wine tasting at a château here too.

You'll ride through fields of maize and sunflowers to reach the historic town of La Reole. Discover its narrow cobbled streets and visit the two impressive castles as well as the church.

Make your way back to the cruise boat on the bike path which wends its way along the "Canal de la Garonne" which was constructed way back in the days of Napoleon.

If you've got the legs, make a detour via the beautiful scenery of Meilhan-sur-Garonne.

Later, the cruise ship will cast off and make its way along the Garonne River to reach Loupiac near the city of Cadillac.

Today you'll explore the delightful Sauternes area, passing through famous vineyards and enjoying tastings along the way.
You'll ride along the winding cycle path alongside the Ciron River to the impressive and historic fortified medieval village of

Cadillac.

Back on board the boat you'll cruise along the Garonne River to the majestic city of Bordeaux. From the boat you'll enjoy the

panoramic views of 'les Quais' and admire the bridges that span this magnificent river.

We recommend either taking the day to explore the sites of Bordeaux on foot or discover the must-sees in the company of a local guide on your bike

If you're after more of a cyling challenge you have the option of riding the Roger Lapebie cycle route to Créon and Sauveterre-en-Guyane in the Entre-Deux-Mers wine region.

The riding today is fully flexible to make as short or as long a circuit as you wish.

You'll ride through some of the Bordeaux area's most iconic vineyard estates with of course the opportunity to stop for tastings and vineyard visits along the way.

You'll also learn about Grand Cru classifications and the wine making process from some of the most distinguished vineyard estates in the area.

At the end of the day, enjoy a dining cruise as your ship makes its way across to the other bank of the Gironde river where you'll moor up at Bourg, a beautiful, historic liittle town with an old centre which overlooks the estuary.

Today's landscape is a hilly one covered with vineyards and scattered with fairytale chateau and classic manor houses.

The day will include more vineyard visits and wine tastings.

You'll follow the quiet, beautiful Gironde 'corniche' road before arriving in Blaye to visit the fascinating UNESCO registered Citadelle de Blaye fortress.

In the evening, your cruise will take you to Libourne/Fronsac along the beautiful Dordogne River.

Today's explorations will take you on a discovery tour of the Libourne area and on to the UNESCO vineyards and historic town of Saint Emilion.

Visit the village and its underground church then cycle along picturesque country lanes, stopping along the way to visit more vineyard estates and enjoy more wine tastings.

Day 8 :
Departure

After your last breakfast on board it will be time to say farewell and disembark before your journey home.

An optional bus transfer back to Bordeaux is available.

What sort of bikes are on board?

The bikes on board have aluminium frames, front suspension, comfort seat and disc brakes. They are equipped with a 21 speed Shimano cassette.

The electric bikes have an 8 speed Shimano Nexus set up with a 36V 250W central motor, 15 Ah Samsung lithium battery & LCD screen.

Can I bring my own bike?

Yes, of course! There’s no extra cost but you must let us know in advance if you’re bringing your own bike.

How fit do I need to be?

No particular level of fitness is required as there are several options for you to choose from each day. Of course you can always hire an e-bike if you have any doubts!

What is there to do if I don't want to cycle every day?

You can always explore the area around where the boat is docked on foot. Or just relax and enjoy the sun terrace and bar on board.

What will I see on the daily cycle tours?

The daily guided tours will take you through the historical and cultural sites of the region, to visit not only châteaux and vineyards but also local markets, medieval villages, and museums.

What if I want a self-guided cycle tour?

No problem, you’ll be provided with a map and guide book for you to discover the area by yourself.
