Active Provence

The Verdon Gorge area of Haute Provence has a reputation for being THE hottest destination for outdoor sports in the South East of France. It’s a veritable cornucopia of outdoors adventures! If you need to be active on holiday, pick and mix from our active itinerary ideas and we’ll incorporate them into your trip to SE France.

The gorge is a breathtakingly (sometimes literally!) beautiful area, 21kms long and some 700m deep, carved out of the limestone by the Verdon River in the departments of Haute Provence and the Hautes Alpes.

Watersports lovers will make a bee-line for the river where they can enjoy a whole variety of riversports. River rafting, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, river boarding….. you name it, you can do it on the Verdon River! There are options for the novice as well as for the more experienced and confident.

If you’re not much of a water lover then maybe test your head for heights on the numerous via ferrata and rock climbing options around the Verdon Gorge. Test your head for heights even more on a tandem paragliding outing and see the gorge from a unique vantage point! We can also arrange hot air balloon flights in the area.

If you’re a hardcore adrenaline junkies then a slacklining/highlining experience in the Verdon Gorge is unmissable. Walk along a 1” wide piece of climbing webbing attached to designated anchor points which give you a span of 85m over a height of 160m! Eek!

For those of you who prefer a less adrenaline-charged active break in the Verdon, we will arrange for a local guide to accompany you on a hike to discover some of the beautiful scenery in the Gorges du Verdon area.

Horse enthusiasts are not forgotten here either. Whatever your level, novice or experienced, a day hack in the area will be an unforgettable experience.

For some serious chilling out, there are some lovely lakes in the immediate area where you can hop into a pedalo or a canoe for a few hours, or even swim in the wonderfully warm, clear waters.
