Western Languedoc Wine Tour

6 Days

This wine tour of western Languedoc introduces you to some outstanding vineyards in one of the biggest wine-producing areas of France.

The vineyards of Languedoc extend from the border of Spain in the west right the way along the south west coast of France to Montpellier in the east.

No other region boasts such variety. Over thirty different grape stocks are grown here producing reds, whites, rosés, sparkling and sweet wines. If you’re a wine-lover you are spoilt for choice in Languedoc Roussillon!

This 6 day wine tour concentrates on the rich and varied vineyards in the western Languedoc. An extended 2 centre tour is also available that explores the whole of the Languedoc Roussillon vineyard area from west to east.

Your base for this wine tour is the medieval city of Carcassonne. It’s one of the most beautiful fortified towns in Europe and a fabulous base from which to radiate out to explore the surrounding vineyards.

Our itinerary includes a number of professionally guided visits to selected red wine producing estates. Explore the wild and beautiful Minervois area, discover the outstanding sparkling wines of Limoux and visit some of the oldest vineyards on the coast of the south of France.

Along the way you’ll meet the smaller producers who will share with you their knowledge of and passion for their area and the wines that they create.

After lunch, a stroll through this historic village before heading to a second family-owned estate which produces red, white and rosé wines.

Today you are free to explore the area at your leisure following some of the recommendations we will make based on your interests.

A real treat for you today as you'll explore one of the most highly regarded vineyard areas of the south of France, la Clape near Narbonne.
Vines have been grown here since Roman times and you will have the opportunity to taste both red and white wines on this vineyard tour. The latter is produced from an ancient grape variety called Bourboulenc which is today blended with other white grape varieties to produce some of the finest white wines in the south of France.
You'll enjoy a fabulous seafood lunch in the pretty port of Gruissan where you'll visit the salt pans and learn how salt is harvested.
A second vineyard visit in the afternoon to sample wines from a different 'terroir' on the opposite side of la Clape - it will be fascinating to compare your two very different wine experiences of the day.

Spend your final day in the western Languedoc exploring the area at your leisure following our recommendations based on your interests.
You may opt to explore the vineyards and wineries of the red wine producing Côte de Malpère around Carcassonne. Or maybe you'd prefer to visit one of the organic/bio-dynamic vineyards in the area and learn more about this growing movement amongst the wine producers of France.
